A Story Rewritten

One of the stories that has touched my heart during the time I've been working with The Beehive project is that of sisters Paula and Daniela who are 11 and 10 years old. The moment I met them, I fell in love with their smile and tenderness, one more naughty than the other. I immediately noticed their need to feel loved and protected. They became orphans after their father, a drug dealer, died from an overdose and their mother abandoned them with their grandmother. To this day, the family and the girls do not know anything about their mother’s whereabouts and believe that she is dead. A few years later, their uncle joined a guerrilla group and died in combat, which was a painful time for the girls' grandmother, spiraling her into depression and chronic drug use. Meanwhile, their grandfather was in jail.

It's tragic beyond words that innocent children like these experience such pain and loss without the power to change their circumstance, or even understand it. However, thanks to God and the help of generous supporters like you, we have been able to provide a safe haven for these girls. They have access to comfortable housing, healthy food, private education, and an adoptive “family” of Christian believers who help mentor and encourage them.

The Beehive exists because tragic stories like these are realities for many young girls in Colombia. Our purpose is to rewrite the stories for these girls. Their gratitude is evident in their bright eyes and loving embraces.
