Nathaly's Story

My name is Nathaly Dayana Rincón Méndez and I am 15 years old. When I was six, my dad took my mother's life in front of me, shooting her during an argument they were having.

A month after my mother's death, the police arrested my father and sentenced him to 19 years in prison. Several months later I found myself a resident at the newly-founded Beehive with my younger sister Jennifer. Gradually we adapted to our new home. The hurt and anger in my heart began to give way as I learned about God's love and goodness. /or/ My heart, hardened by anger toward my dad, began to soften as I learned of God's love and goodness. As time passed, I also discovered that God had provided us with both a father-figure, the Pastor Libni, and a mother-figure, our caretaker Ruth. Together they showed me that the Beehive is my family and that my sister and I would always be well taken care of. Eventually I began to forgive my father for what he did, confident that God could change his heart and the lives of my entire family, however broken.

Little by little I observed God softening their hearts as he did mine. Today several members of my family attend a Christian church and profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. I have already seen the hand of God working in their lives. Recently, my grandfather had to undergo a risky surgery on two hernias in his stomach and it was completely successful. My aunt who is a single mother was able to find stable employment after months of struggling to make ends meet. Now all of us who believe in Jesus continue to pray that the rest of my family, including my father, will also come to faith and let God transform their lives. I especially hope to restore the relationship with my father, despite everything, because I know Jesus is able to mend what is broken!

This year I enter the tenth grade. I'm hoping and praying that I finish school with high enough grades in order to enter college or start a career. Meanwhile I've begun to serve in the children's ministry of a new church plant in a very poor neighborhood of Bogotá. I want to pay forward some of the love and blessing I've received these last 10 years living in the Beehive. I hope to be a girl who works for God.

I am grateful to God for putting in my path incredible people such as Pastor Libni, Mami Ruth, Uncle Jacob, and many people from different parts of the United States who support Children's Outreach Ministries. I pray that God will reward you for loving and supporting me and the other girls, and that I'm able to meet you one day!
